"Change is hard" is the wrong excuse. Maybe your strategy is the problem.

“Many so-called strategies are in fact goals. “We want to be the number one or number two in all the markets in which we operate” is one of those. It does not tell you what you are going to do; all it does is tell you what you hope the outcome will be. But you’ll still need a strategy to achieve it.”

"Strategy" is thrown around a lot, but how many of those "strategies" are just vague goals? This HBR article really makes it apparent: real strategy is about CLEAR CHOICES, not just fluffy ambitions. A few other takeaways that resonated with me:

  • Communicate the WHY, not just the WHAT – Help employees understand the logic behind the choices.

  • Empower bottom-up action WITHIN strategic boundaries – Set the direction, let your teams innovate how to get there.

  • Make change the default – It's time to break those bad habits holding you back from executing your strategy!

What's ONE clear choice that's guided a successful change initiative in your experience?
